August 2nd, 2010 by Robert Rosati

On August 12th from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Racine Art Museum, located at 441 Main Street, live music by the group “Fly Box” will be taking place.

“Fly Box” is a mixed-media, presentation, incorporating original recorded and live music, photography, fishing flies, poetry and textile art. The music is in three movements, based on stages in the life cycle of a water insect. Electronic, acoustic and vocal music portray the “nymph”, “dunn” and “spinner” phases. Poetry and prose related to insects and fly fishing, featuring selections from “The Complete Angler”, 1663, by Izaak Walton and Charles Cotton, will be sung and spoken.

Award-winning nature photographer Zdena Sumerauerova of Prague has contributed her work, which will be shown in video montage with photos of fishing flies by Karel Suchy. Fishing flies, including some by fly-fishing expert Pat Ehler, will be displayed. Textile art, representing insect life stages, has been contributed by Prague artist and historical expert on textiles, Eva Jandikova.

The musical presentation is 20-30 minutes in length, and will be repeated throughout the event. Karel Suchy will be available for questions and discussion between musical segments.

The event is sponsored in part by Shillings Irish Pub, located in downtown Racine. “Fly Box” is free for all members of the Racine Art Museum and $8 for other guests.
