Dairy Pricing Association donates cheese to help end hunger

January 25th, 2012 by Robert Rosati

The Dairy Pricing Association, a local cooperative organization of milk producers, will donate 2,000 pounds of cheddar cheese to Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin in a ceremony to be held at Meister Dairy (1050 E. Industrial Drive, Muscoda, Wisconsin) on Thursday, January 26, from noon to 1 p.m. Second Harvest is a member of Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity. This will mark the third donation of dairy products by the Association to a Feeding America member since August, 2011.

The Dairy Pricing Association is a collection of dairy producers whose mission is to establish a minimum price the dairy industry receives for its production, while at the same time maintaining a level of milk production to meet the needs of the consumer. The members of the Association pay a monthly assessment of 10 cents per hundred pounds of milk produced. This assessment is used to purchase surplus dairy commodities which are donated to Feeding America.

Robin Berg, Chairman of Dairy Pricing Association Inc. said, “This program is not being funded by any processor or marketer. We welcome all dairy producers, no matter what size, or what grade of milk you produce.”

The donation to Second Harvest will be fifty 40-pound blocks of cheddar cheese. Once received, volunteers will split the blocks of cheese into two-pound, family-size portions that will be distributed through a network of partner agencies to thousands of individuals, families, children and seniors who struggle with hunger.

“Dairy products are a critical component to achieving our goal of providing high-quality, nutritionally balanced food to those struggling with hunger. We are thankful to the Dairy Pricing Association for their continued commitment to ending hunger.” – Dan Stein, president and CEO, Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin.

Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending hunger in southwestern Wisconsin through community partnerships, serving nearly 141,000 people who struggle to put food on the table, including 43 percent who are children. Through food and financial donations and volunteer support, Second Harvest Foodbank acquires and distributes food to 315 partner agencies, including food pantries, shelters and meal sites, in 16 counties. From July 1, 2010–June 30, 2011, Second Harvest Foodbank distributed 8.6 million pounds of food. It is one of 200 members of Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity.

Schlitz Park Signs Lease with AECOM for 21,000 Square Feet

January 21st, 2012 by Robert Rosati

AECOM Technology Corporation, a leading provider of professional technical and management support services for government and commercial clients around the world, has signed a lease for more than 21,000 square feet of space in the second floor of Schlitz Park’s RiverCenter building. AECOM will consolidate its two Milwaukee locations and move nearly 90 employees to Schlitz Park July 1.

AECOM is the third new tenant Schlitz Park has attracted since developers of the 46-acre downtown river front office community announced plans for a $30 million renovation. The firm is a Fortune 500 company that serves clients in approximately 130 countries and had revenues of $8.0 billion during its fiscal year 2011. AECOM was ranked number one overall in Engineering News Record’s 2011 list of Top 500 Design Firms.

“AECOM is a global leader in understanding the value of space and place. They are a perfect fit for Schlitz Park,” said Gary Grunau, Schlitz Park co-owner and developer. “Their dedicated professionals work to create, enhance and sustain the world’s built, natural and social environments. This is exactly the type of talent and company that the renovated Schlitz Park is designed to attract and retain in downtown Milwaukee.”

AECOM has more than 350 employees in Wisconsin at seven locations including its current Milwaukee offices at 1020 N Broadway and 11425 W Lake Park Drive.

“The move to one downtown office on a single floor will make collaborative brainstorming and creativity, which have always been key elements of our work style, much easier. A single location also enhances client convenience and service by bringing together our technical expertise,” said Paul Tarvin, vice president, AECOM. “For our employees, Schlitz Park’s RiverCenter provides open, flexible workspaces with river views, inviting common areas and many amenities on site and nearby. The office park’s renovation plans were particularly appealing.”

Schlitz Park recently began remodeling 350,000 square feet of office space and will add amenities including a new fitness center and conference areas in the RiverCenter. Developers plan to pursue US Green Building Council LEED EB (Existing Building) certification for all renovated Schlitz Park buildings. Additional plans call for new parks, trails and green spaces.

RFP Commercial, Inc.’s Jim Cavanaugh, representing Schlitz Park, and CBRE’s William Bonifas, representing AECOM, negotiated the AECOM RiverCenter lease. The signing brings the 460,000 square-foot, three-story building’s occupancy rate to just over 90 percent leased.
